3 Things to Know for St. Patty's Day in Pittsburgh

Every year, Saint Patrick's Day brings thousands of spectators into the heart of Pittsburgh for the festivities, particular the annual parade. This year the parade will take place on March 15th at 10 a.m. Below are a few things to know if you plan on celebrating in Pittsburgh.

1. Where to Get Parade Gear

The official parade T-shirts from the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee are now on sale. A portion of the proceeds goes to the parade.  Shirts are available online and at selected shops around Pittsburgh. (Click here for a list.)

2. Irish Fair in the Square

Market Square will host its annual "Irish Fair in the Square" street party starting at 10 a.m. It's a family-friendly, alcohol-free event until 2 p.m., changing into an adult-oriented event with controlled access from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Open containers will be permitted from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and food and green beer will be sold in the streets of the square.

3. Parking and Transportation Options

Transportation services will be offered at various times from 7:30 a.m. March 15 until 4:30 a.m. March 16 as follows:-Licensed taxi stand: East Carson at 17th Street, slopes side-Free public parking: Pittsburgh Parking Authority Second Avenue parking lot (700 spaces) across 10th Street Bridge from 6:30 a.m. on March 15 until noon March 16-Free shuttle bus service: Starts at Pittsburgh Parking Authority Second Avenue parking lot across Tenth Street Bridge via Muriel, Wharton, 18th and East Carson Streets to South Side Works and back continuously-Transportation services map: The Chamber will post a transportation services map at its website and launch a major informational campaign to publicize special transportation and parking options.
